Protein structure

ERCC6-PGBD3

ERCC6-PGBD3 readthrough

This locus represents naturally-occurring readthrough transcription between the neighboring ERCC6 (excision repair cross-complementing rodent repair deficiency, complementation group 6) and PGBD (piggyBac transposable element derived 3) genes on chromosome 10. The readthrough transcripts encode a fusion protein that shares sequence with the product of each individual gene. The encoded protein may function in DNA repair and in the innate immune response. It binds to MER85 sequences in DNA, and may interact with transcription factors to modulate gene expression. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
