- Description
- Short transient receptor potential channel 3 (TrpC3), also known as, Transient receptor protein 3 (TRP-3 or hTrp-3 or hTrp3), and encoded by the gene names TRPC3 or TRP3, is a membrane protein that can form a non-selective channel permeable to calcium and other cations. TRPC3 appears to be induced to form channels by a receptor tyrosine kinase-activated phosphatidylinositol second messenger system and also by depletion of intracellular calcium stores. TRPC3 is localized to the membrane and is predominantly expressed in brain and at much lower levels in ovary, colon, small intestine, lung, prostate, placenta and testis.
