Description
Cytoskeleton-associated protein 5 (CKAP5) is a member of the TOG/XMAP215 family containing heat repeats and plays a role in kinetochore mircotubule protection from depolymerization by MCAK. CKAP5 is the homolog of the Xenopus protein, XMAP25 (also known as chTog), which plays an essential role in centrosomal assembly. CKAP5 is localized in the perinuclear cytoplasm during interphase and at the spindle poles and centrosomes during mitosis. Studies show CKAP5 interacts with TACC1, TACC3, and tubulin leading to the hypothesis that it functions in spindle microtuble organization. Hepatomas and colonic tumors have shown overexpression of CKAP5.
