- Description
- TM4SF20 is a member of the L6 tetraspanin family and is also a protein with four transmembrane along with two extracellular and one intracellular region. Proteins of this family are known to bind integrins, growth hormones, induce insulin secretion, and regulate the development of certain cancers. TM4SF20 is expressed on pancreatic, lung, colon, breast, and ovarian cancers and in the intestinal epithelium and the brain. The deletion of exon 3 of TM4SF20 results in a speech impairment known as Specific Language Impairment-5 (SLI5).
